The Mental Health Society of Greater Victoria was founded in 2018 to address the increasing demand for accessible mental health services and resources in the community. We are an interdisciplinary team that works collaboratively with various service providers and organizations to better support the diverse needs of people in Greater Victoria.
MENTAL HEALTH CAFES
Our monthly mental health cafes are open to everyone which feature a variety of activities and an open mic. The goal is to discuss mental health as a community while there are also options for people who wish to gather resources, socialize, participate in activities, or attend in a way which seems fitting. We understand that being social or attending events can be difficult at times, so members of MHS Victoria are happy to provide support, as we strive to offer a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.
MENTAL HEALTH NETWORK
MHS Victoria strives to connect people with the services and resources that they need through developing relationships with other organizations and by collaborating with members of the community. The mission is to have no person left behind or fall through the cracks of the mental health system.
MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID
There is a demand for immediate and ongoing support services for people who are in crisis. MHS Victoria is devoted toward expanding front-line services and outreach for mental health, so people can receive the support they need, when they need it. Many members of the society are trained in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and we aim to collaborate with other organizations to run this training more frequently while making it more accessible.
Mental health is part of everyone's lives. It is important for organizations, schools, families, friends, groups, etc. to understand the role mental health plays in various settings and circumstances. MHS Victoria strives to educate community members on how to support one-another in maintaining their mental health while being able to respond appropriately when people may be struggling. We recognize the importance and value of self-care while we also emphasize the role of supportive relationships and the community in contributing toward overall health and well-being.
