Non-Emergency Resouces

Refugee resource: VICCIR provides mental health counseling to immigrants and refugees living in Canada. They work with specially trained interpreters as required.

Indigenous resource: Hope for Wellness provides telephone and online chats with counselors, with services available in English, French, Cree, Ojibway (Anishinaabemowin), and Inuktitut. Services in English or French are available 24/7.

2SLGBTQIA+ resource: Vancouver Island Queer Resource Collective offers support and direction to various resources including support groups and health services for queer folks from all walks of life. They also provide lists of queer-owned and queer-friendly businesses to support.

Substance use resource: Call 1-800-663-1441 for the Alcohol and Drug Information and Drug Referral Service. It is free and available 24/7 for information about substance use treatment services.

Health service navigation: Call 811 for a non-emergency health service navigation (including mental health and substance use information) phone line across BC. You can also be connected to a registered nurse through 811 about symptoms you are worried about or talk with a pharmacist about medication questions.

Mental Health Support Database: a database of mental health and substance use resources, including support services and information, provided by the government of BC.
